ARC's South River Forest Report
ARC's South River Forest Report
In late February 2023, the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) released their South River Forest Community Input Report. The report asserts that the “need to protect the South River Forest is increasingly urgent”.
Upon release of the report, Atlanta’s Mayor immediately announced the formation of a “Task Force” to merge the massive Training Center plan known as “Cop City” with the South River Forest plan.
The South River Forest plan and Cop City are diametrically opposed. The entire 296-acre Prison Farm was slated to be a park and the heart of the South River Forest conservation plan. Meanwhile, Cop City fails to even meet the greenspace requirements of its own legislation.
Hold ARC accountable to their report.

ARC’s report centers around public input and predominant concerns, including environmental justice and prioritizing the “urgent transfer of unprotected public land and acquisition of private land as dedicated greenspace”.
